I stealthed them once at a very small venue, and there was someone with a pass standing right next to me who didn't seem to care, who knows who it was. I also know someone was video taping the show and they were made to turn off the tape after 4 songs, even though they were set up right next to the soundboard. Anyways everyone ought to tape / stealth these guys! Email me if you have any masters!

Also, note that this policy likely carries over to the band's ten zillion side projects. I can't confirm that but am pretty sure they won't mind. If in doubt, send e-mail first.

Sadly Acoustic Junction is no more - thier last official performance was 9/3/00. Reed Foehl singer/song writer is out on his own and tours regularly. Curtis Thompson, bass player, has formed a new band called Kulica. Kulica plays gigs in and around Humbolt. Tom Diehl, drummer, now plays for Spooky Daly Pride. Tim Roper, fiddle harmonica and key, plays for a bluegrass band called the Centre Streeters.

They play basement and house shows, so the sound is not always the best or even all that great in said venues. And audience recording, you might hear the crowd singing on the recording just as much, if not more than the band.

Just use standard good taping behavior.... arrive early, be nice, introduce yourself and talk to the band before the show about your recording plans. Dont infringe upon patrons enjoyment or soundpersons/band livelyhood. There are a lot of recordings on the archive...or better yet, support thier efforts and buy a cd!

Please note that the ABB does NOT ALLOW online file trading, oddly enough.

I tried to tape Dave Alvin on January 17, 2003 and was turned down. He had Steve Forbert opening up for him, so this *may* have been why we were turned down. We started setting up, and promoter told us we had to ask, we did, and they said no. No reason was given. Again this may have been due to Steve Forbert being the opening band.

The next night in Atlanta, GA a friend openly taped Dave Alvin, with no trouble at all. Must have been Steve Forbert not allowing taping.

What are your feelings on people that record and trade your live shows?

I didn't ask about soundboard access. They do tape their own shows, but are very very grateful to receive audience tapes back.

Update Nov/04: I tried to tape a show this month and had the tour manager come over to my rig. The new taping policy seems to be that taping is allowed only if the taper purchases one of the "instant" recordings being made by the road crew. The cost would have been $15 extra to tape, so I did not...

I talked to their singer at a festival in 2003 and he told me that taping is OK, but no board access.

Danny Barnes (founding member of Bad Livers) has always allowed taping and trading of his shows. He helped support the start of the tradeBarnes mailing list on Yahoo! groups.

Clem Snide allows and permits audio recordings of their shows. So long as no money is made off the recordings, it is allowed. The band asks that if you make a good recording and it's not too much trouble to please send them a couple copies.

NOTE: their taping policy may not be well communicated to venues.

9/9/01 Update: They now actively encourage audience taping and the spread of their music. Band does not need copies of the show, only encourages spreading it.

I talked with The Big Wu's bassist on 09.01.01 at a show in Omaha, NE. I had been trying to get a board patch that night after seeing it was allowed on BTAT but found out they no longer give out board patches nor did I see Paul Hagen archiving. Apparently their soundman got tired of people messing with the board and turning knobs while he was giving out patches so they just decided to quit giving patches to save some headache. They do however still actively encourage Aud taping!!!

However, the band does NOT allow videotaping.

SHOW TAPING POLICY

We encourage fans to tape Black Keys performances but only within the guidelines established below:

1) While promoters and venues are made aware of the band's policy toward tapers in our performance contracts, that does not guarantee that the promoter or production manager will remember to specifically instruct venue staff to ignore the normal house policy against tapers if one exists. While we will make efforts, we cannot be responsible for ensuring that the band's wishes are respected. Fans who request a personal, written permission from the band or their management office simply cannot be accommodated due to time constraints. If you are met with resistance from venue staff, you're on your own to politely explain the band's position on taping in an attempt to gain entry with your gear.

2) No live recording, regardless of quality or format of distribution, is to be exploited commercially by anyone in any way at any time without the band's explicit, written permission. In other words, you are free to trade recordings or even give them away but we do not want to see them offered for sale at any price, even if the price quoted is ostensibly only to cover the costs of duplication, packaging, and/or shipping.

3) While all types of monophonic and two-track stereo audio recording equipment is permissible as long as it does not interfere with other fans' enjoyment of the show visually or otherwise, no front-of-house sound board patches will be provided. Board tapes are often very poor representations of shows because the size and acoustic qualities of show rooms vary greatly. This often results in a mix that is right for the audience in the room but which sounds very unbalanced through the board. Please do not ever request a board patch from any Black Keys or in-house venue engineer.

4) No videotaping of performances is allowed.

5) While it is by no means a requirement, the band does request that, as a courtesy, taping fans forward a CD copy of any recordings of reasonable quality to them at the following address:

Please make sure that the exterior of the package is marked "Live Black Keys" and that the CD is somehow labeled with the date and location of the recorded performance along with your own name and contact information.

Blue October allows audio taping at almost every live performance. We feel that each show is unique and want to offer our fans the opportunity to recreate the live experience through the audio reproduction of our shows. At all taping authorized performances; tapers can tape from any ticketed seating location in the venue. Also, for many of these performances tapers are able to purchase tickets for a specially designated taper section, normally located immediately behind the soundboard. No soundboard or power feeds are provided.

Blue October's taping policy is that you may bring a hand-held Walkman-type AUDIO recorder for personal use. . Wireless receivers are strictly prohibited. We sincerely appreciate all of our fans, so we ask that you please be considerate of those around you by not obstructing anyone else's view of the performance.

Blue October brings their own security to coordinate with the local security before each show. Promoters and venue security will be aware that small, hand-held audio recorders are permitted, but occasionally this message does not get through to those at the doors. Scott Barnes, Blue October's road manager, would like you to ask for him if you have a problem at the door and are told that you can't bring in your hand-held audio recording equipment.

Please remember that the spirit of the taping policy is for each person to have a personal memory of the show. If the equipment is too sophisticated, it'll be considered bootlegging gear and will probably not be allowed. There isn't a list of recorders or gear that's allowed, so please use your good judgment and common sense. OK are Walkman-type, hand-held recorders: cassette, micro-cassette, mini-disc are fine. NO-DATS. NO EXTERNAL MICS. No Standing mics. No booms. No pre-amps.

All recordings must be used for personal use or trading only. Selling or commercializing any recording is illegal and will jeopardize taping privileges for everyone. Please read our Bootleg Statement for more information.

In addition to helping fans recreate the live experience, we hope tape trading will foster greater interaction within the fan community. Any method of trading that does not involve personal fan interaction defeats the spirit of this goal of the taping policy and is not authorized. In particular, posting audio or video files on web sites for streaming to or downloading by the public is not authorized.

"Except where prohibited by venue regulations or a headlining act on a multi-act show, Joe Bonamassa generally allows audio taping and still photography at his live performances. No soundboard feeds will be given and it is the responsibility of audio tapers to bring their own equipment. Still photographers will not be given access to any areas beyond those granted on their ticket. Notwithstanding this policy, all persons attending a performance must comply with the rules and regulations of the venue hosting the performance.

Any and all audio recordings and still photography taped/taken at a live show may be used solely for non-commercial purposes. Any and all audio recordings and still photography taped/taken at a live show shall be considered "works-made-for-hire" for Medalist Entertainment within the meaning of the Copyright Act of 1976 and Medalist will own the copyright and all other rights in and to the work. Video taping performances is prohibited without the express written consent of artist management. A 4 Piece rock and blues show. Jude is an exceptional guitarist that blends rock blues and other styles in fresh way. Very tight rythym section and keys, check them out, and up and comer!

Spoke with Jude Bowereman about his stance on taping. He is very cool with it. Respect the venue and any headliner restrictions. And if you have trouble ask for him, as he is a cool guy and will help you out. If you get a good recording, send the band a copy or two.
